Welcome To The Soul Connection Website

To be filmed and set in Yorkshire, Soul Connection is a touching Romantic Comedy film celebrating love, aging, and the magic of inter-generational friendships.

We are a team of scrappy young filmmakers, working to produce our first independent feature film!

Here you can find out more about Soul Connection's story, the team bringing it to life and the exciting plans ahead.

You can also explore how you might be able to get involved in bringing this film to life!

THE STORY

After losing her husband and best friend of 50 years, newly widowed Jane has lost the eccentric spark that once defined her personality. Whilst sitting alone in the village cafe, she notices a young woman who has been stood up on a date. Jane ends up embarking on a haphazard journey with Jessie, a clumsy, hopeless romantic after she makes it her mission to find Jessie a boyfriend.

As the pair realise they are each other's only 'single' friends, they slowly develop their own deep connection and understanding of one another.

In 2022 only 11% of Directors and 9% of Composers of the top 100 films were women.

50+

Less than 25% of characters in popular movies and TV shows from the last decade are 50+.

Male characters dominate on-screen in the 50+ age group: 80% in films, 75% in broadcast TV, and 66% in streaming platforms.

Characters aged 50 and above are less likely to have romantic storylines compared to younger characters,  who are two to three times more likely.

KEY FINDINGS ON AGE  AND GENDER REPRESENTATION

ON AND OFF SCREEN

Survey: Older Audiences want media to depict them authentically positively, and diversely, challenging aging stereotypes.

We can address the underrepresentation of the 50+ demographic by focusing on their genuine stories and accurately depicting them on screen. By doing so, we can make a positive impact and ensure that their voices are heard!
